I wrote the short 10 minute play about asexuality during the early stages of lockdown and Covid-19.

The play was chosen for a bursary with the Irish Gay Theatre Festival and was included in their anthology book. In early June of this year. It will be filmed professionally this coming June to be included as part of the Gay Theatre Festival with the same actress and myself acting as director. The following year it was filmed professionaly with new actress Niamh Murphy and showed as part of the 2021 festival. This version is restricted but can be shared if requested.

Romeo and Juliet

Director and producer

J.M. Sweetmans, October 2019

I directed and produced this classic play as bar

basement, site specific comedy. There was no stage with

the scenes taking place often from within audience

members. Since I was 14 I often felt Romeo and Juliet

was written as a mockery of teenage love that we had all

mis-interpreted, I attacked the play with this

perspective. The show included an ensemble cast of

fourteen. The actors had to constantly think on their

feet. Blocking would change depending on where

audience ended up and there was plenty of improv

between audience and performers. I spent a lot of time

developing the voice for strong projection that would

carry across the basement. As it was site specific we

made sure to mark our territory for the various scenes to

make our own rules. The show was a huge success with

all performances close to capacity with excellent

feedback. Eoin O'Flaherty choreographed incredible

stage combat.

Grizel: Dublins Pig-Faced Lady

Writer and Director

I created and Directed Grizel through a series of workshops and research for my twenty minute thesis show as part of my MA. I used postdramatic methods to create a show driven by a historic narrative. Grizel Steevens set up Dublin’s first volunteer based hospital in the early 1700’s but is known for having the face of a pig, the show examines the ludocracy of rumours paying specific attention to her story. The show is built around an ensemble cast, with the actors constantly changing characters, except for our lead Grizel Steevens. Each scene takes place in a difference genre, setting and time.I believed passionately in the script and Grizels story being shared. In 2020 I received funding from DLRcoco to develop the show into a full length production and perform a work in progress in the Lexicon Theatre space. This was cancelled because of Covid-19 but I used the funds to extend the original 20-minute script as well as perform a rehearsed reading through YouTube live. The full version is set to be performed in the Edge Theatre in Chicago March 2023

"Saoirse brings joy and creativity to every performance. Her unique perspective and comedic flair make her an unforgettable talent in the Chicago theatre scene."
